OUR STORY

Taller Boricua was established in El Barrio of East Harlem as the Puerto Rican Workshop Incorporated in 1969 as a non-profit arts organization. Its mission was to bring attention and relevancy to artist who were being ignored and systematically marginalized by the cultural gatekeepers of the times. Its political artistic engagement with the Young Lords Party who were headquartered across their street, infused inspiration to the rise of the poetic, social and cultural  Nuyorican Movement.
